Thief steals caravan with two owners inside

A man and a woman were trapped inside their new caravan when a thief drove off with it in Adelaide, Australia. Police say the couple in their 60s were picking up their new caravan from a dealer in Main North Road at suburban Blair Athol. It had been hooked up to their car and the Riverland couple were in the caravan with the sales manager for a final demonstration of its features.

But their keys had been left in the car's ignition. Police say a man jumped in the car and sped off with all three people in the caravan. The sales manager jumped clear, but the others were trapped inside the van.



Salesman Dean Kessner said he was shocked when the caravan started to move. "I just didn't know whether the handbrake had come loose ... and it nudged off and then as it was going there was just panic, just concerned for the safety of the people inside, that's what I was worried about, poor buggers," he said.

The offender crashed into a car and hit the kerb as he sped off. Police say he dumped the car and van about three streets away and ran off. The shaken couple were unhurt but the damage bill for the caravan is put at about $2,000.
