Warning over crazed eye-pecking pee wee

Beachgoers on the Gold Coast of Australia beware - a deranged pee wee with a mania for eyeballs is on the loose and doing damage. The bird has attacked at least three people at Currumbin Alley recently, picking out unsuspecting victims and going straight for their eyes. Two of its victims have ended up with scratches in their eyes.

Ophthalmic nurse Debbie Smith said two people had sought treatment at the Eye Care Clinic in Coolangatta claiming to be victims of a 'crazed pee wee'. She said the bird had almost ruptured one man's cornea. "The public needs to know this bird's out there," she said.

"I don't know if it's a bit psychotic but it's just got this thing for attacking people's eyes." The latest victim was 20-month-old Beau Gray, who was at Currumbin Alley with his mum Brooke on Friday when the bird swooped.

"The poor little thing was playing and the next thing it was going at his face and got him in the eye," said Mrs Gray. "I clapped my hands to shoo it away but it had already done a little bit of damage to his eye ... but it could have been a lot worse."
