A baking innuendo has got a rise out of villagers and a local teacher who object to the new shop’s “trashy” name. Nice Baps, on Henlow High Street, opened last Wednesday and say trade is good, despite small objections to their title.
John O’Toole, the shops owner, said: “A little petition was handed in and I had a letter from one of the local schools who said they though the name was trashy. So I tried to explain it that I do small baps and big baps and they’re nice and firm.”
However a teacher at Henlow’s Raynsford VC Lower School, wrote to the bakers of her own accord worried about the effect the name may have on the town’s children.
The chairman of Henlow Parish Council says he has received a letter of complaint and it will be discussed at the authority’s next meeting, but does not think there is any cause for action.
