Man on 'chicken-licking' charge

A former supermarket worker who was allegedly filmed licking a raw chicken and slashing colleagues' coats at a Preston supermarket has been charged with criminal damage.

Adeel Ayub, 30, of Spinney Brow, Ribbleton, in Preston, worked at Asda, Fulwood, before he left the company in December 2006

Mobile phone footage showed a worker stamping on, and licking chickens before putting them back on shelves for customers to buy, setting off fire extinguishers and slashing furniture and clothes with a blade.

Police have charged Ayub with five counts of criminal damage – one for destroying a fire extinguisher, one for destroying furniture, another for destroying clothing and two for destroying food stock.

Mr Ayub, who worked at the store as a shelf-stacker, was also allegedly filmed urinating in a bin, playing cricket and football with stock, smashing boxes of eggs in the stockroom and breaking trophies awarded to the store.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "He will appear before Preston magistrates on December 15."
