Florida resident Daniel McDaniels was apparently visiting a friend on Friday when the pair spotted the black and white critter. Preparing to take aim with a .22-caliber rifle, the 31-year-old was loading the weapon with its butt on the ground when he tripped its trigger with his finger by accident.
McDaniels didn't realise the gun already had a round in it, according to Manatee County Sheriff's deputies.
Said round pierced the fingers of the skunk-seeker's right hand before entering his left cheek and remaining in his head. His injuries are not life-threatening though, with McDaniels said to have been alert and talking as he was transported to hospital after the incident.
