Sex assault accused ex-pastor blames his banana

A former Carmarthen pastor told police that a young girl could have mistaken a banana in his pocket for his penis.

Standing trial at Swansea Crown Court, Wales, David Protheroe Morris, aged 60, of Llety Fforddolion, in Llanpumsaint, denies a single charge of indecent assault of the then 12-year- old in the mid-1990s. The complainant — now in her mid-twenties, and who cannot be identified — alleges that Morris placed her hand on his crotch area as he tutored her in English.

The jury heard that at the time of the alleged incident, Morris, a former English teacher, was a pastor at the Carmarthen Evangelical Church.

Morris, who was arrested and questioned by police about the allegation earlier this year, told officers he believed the girl may have misinterpreted the situation. "He said one thing he would do from time to time was to carry a banana in his trouser pocket and it's possible that is what the girl mistook for his erect penis," said Mr Walters QC. The case continues.
