Parrots heckle golfers at Florida golf course

It's tee time at Lexington Oaks, and golfers chip off for a hole in one. But there is more than sand traps and rough terrain in their way. At the 11th and 16th holes, two tropical African grey parrots have found a perch and a voice along the green. Both are domestic and live in homes right near the tee box.

Perl is on 16, and has learned to make the sound of a golf cart squeaking to a halt or backing up. The bird also makes cell phone ringing noises and whistles.

Sophie, a 5-year-old parrot, lives at the 11th. She teases and whistles at the golfers with a slightly fouler mouth. Sophie's owner Tony Burkhardt taught her to say, "Hit the damned ball."

"I am sure that a couple of golfers are trying to teach her words that aren't quite proper, said Burkhardt.
