Man accused of stealing foot from grave

An 18-year-old Dallas man was arrested on Friday after showing officers a human foot that he claimed was removed from a grave in the Pleasant Grove area of southeast Dallas. Daniel Wayne Stanley was in a Dallas County jail Friday afternoon, facing a charge of theft from a human corpse/grave, jail records show. Bond was set at $10,000.

The man approached patrol officers at about 3:30 a.m. Friday in the 2100 block of South Buckner Boulevard "and told them he had a human foot in his bag," said Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, Dallas police spokeswoman. "The suspect then got the foot out of the bag and showed it to the officers," Crowther said.

The man told the officers that he had dug up a grave at a nearby Jewish cemetery and took the foot from a "Jew girl's" grave. He told officers that he wanted the foot, Crowther said. He took the officers to the grave and they subsequently arrested him.

Officers also found a "small hatchet along with fragments from the foot" in the man’s bag, Crowther said. Stanley was taken to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center and the foot went to the Dallas County medical examiner's office. Stanley, before Friday, had been free on bond after being arrested in March for threatening to blow up a Dallas office building, according to the records.
