Man staples brother's chin during fight

A man took a staple gun to his older brother's chin during a fight early on Tuesday morning. Gastonia police responded to a call at 256 Dixon Circle just after midnight for a domestic disturbance.

According to police, two brothers got into an argument and assaulted each other. 22-year-old Kevin Lee Atkins assaulted his older brother with a staple gun, causing serious lacerations to his chin, police say.

The father, 52-year-old Hoyt David Atkins, brandished a 12-gauge shotgun and fired a warning shot to try and break up the fight. Kevin Lee Atkins is charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and his father is charged with discharging a firearm in the city and misdemeanor assault for pointing a weapon.

Police seized a metal Stanley staple gun and a Remington 12-gauge shotgun with bird shot from the scene. No charges were filed against the older brother.
