Bra-flashing man placed on sex offenders register

A 63-year-old Angus man showed two young girls he was wearing a black bra, before following them around a supermarket. John Thomson, of Victoria Street, Forfar, was sentenced at Arbroath Sheriff Court having previously admitted approaching the girls, aged seven and 10, at Tesco in Montrose on April 2. He further admitted revealing a bra, advising the children he was wearing a bra, following them through the streets and lifting his clothing to reveal the bra.

Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said the girls had been looking through the underwear section of the supermarket when they were approached. "He removed his top to show them the bra strap," she said. "They were not alarmed and thought the accused's actions were funny." The girls then left and walked to a nearby store, where they were confronted for a second time.

"The accused lifted his top and said he was wearing a bra. It was seen to be black in colour. The complainers were now alarmed by his behaviour, and after returning home, one of their mothers contacted the police." Using the supermarket's CCTV system officers were able to identify Thomson, who admitted he got a "buzz" from his behaviour.

After searching his house a quantity of women's underwear was found. Sheriff Derek Pyle sentenced Thomson to a one-year probation order with the condition he should have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16. Thomson was also placed on the sex offenders register for 12 months and was ordered to forfeit a set of black bra and underpants.
